The Christian PEN has proven invaluable to me on many occasions. I don’t know what I’d do without being able to turn to the terrific folks here for answers and tips when my brain gets fried.
I love The Christian PEN because of the opportunity to commiserate with other editors about the writing and editing life. And hey, we’re all in the same boat, so my question might be someone else’s. It’s fabulous to know that anytime I need encouragement or simply forgot what to do with a comma, all I need to do is ask. Within five minutes, I’ll have several replies with the solution to my problem. You can’t pay enough money for perks like that! What incredible fellowship I’ve experienced through the PEN! Praise God for this wonderful online community! — http://blumereditorial.com/
After taking six classes through the Christian PEN, I launched my freelance editing business in April, 2007. By October, I had enough editing clients to quit my day job and go full-time with editing, and I’ve never looked back. My work is always changing, always challenging, and always pleasurable. From mentoring beginning writers, to critiques, to giving clients “the works,” The Christian PEN has given me all the tools I lacked to help me start up and run a successful freelance editing business. I will never go back to punching a time clock again! – http://www.jeannemarieleach.com/
Membership in the PEN has given me credibility as an editor and a support system of fellow editors who quickly became friends. Membership provides me with job leads, and helps my business grow faster than going it alone.
Recently, Kathy e-mailed a membership renewal notice for the PEN, and I realized how far I’ve come. Within the past year: I established an “official” business, Write Integrity Editorial Services. I’ve edited approximately one hundred projects and the satisfaction I feel with the tremendous success of my clients is overwhelming. My work is a blessing beyond measure.– http://www.writeintegrity.com/
The Christian PEN is the best group of which I have ever been privileged to be a member. Joining the PEN in 2004 is one of the most significant decisions I have made in the course of my career—and not simply because of the many job leads I have received through the group. It is the ideal forum for sharing our group’s valuable and considerable experience, talents, and education. Members have a great deal in common and understand one another so well although we hail from around the globe. I also appreciate our common Christian backgrounds and prayer support.
The Christian PEN has helped me mostly in three ways:
The prayer loop. (Not least because getting others’ requests reminds me how little I personally have to whine about!)
Working on the PEN Points newsletter. Good writing/editing practice and good information on the Christian publishing world.
The courses, especially the recent Business Building and its hints on scheduling and time management.
