Christian Editor Connection is the matchmaking division of Christian Editor Network, connecting authors, publishers, and agents with qualified, established, professional editorial freelancers who meet their specific needs. CEC’s tagline is “Personally connecting established freelance editors with the people who need them since 2007.” CEC started as a part of The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network, which began when founder Kathy Ide had a vision to create a community for Christian editors.

Editors who are interested in being listed in the Christian Editor Connection database must fill out an online application and take tests in whatever editorial services they wish to offer. These tests are designed to assess editors’ skills and determine their levels of experience.

Interested editors may apply if they fulfill the following requirements:

  •       at least two years of experience as a professional freelance editor, beginning with your first paying client (Experience includes paid freelance editing, such as for a monthly church newsletter, short stories, full-length books, etc. This does not include work performed as an employee or intern.)
  •       at least two references
  •       thorough knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition
  •       thorough knowledge of The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style, 4th edition
  •       an introduction letter to potential clients that will be reviewed by the CEC Director

Perhaps one of the least-known facts about CEC is a treasure trove on their website, their Articles for Editors and Articles for Authors, both wonderful resources.

Christy Distler is the director of Christian Editor Connection. The CEC Assistant is Paul Conant. Learn more about CEC.
