What is(are) your area(s) of focus, and why did you select it(them)?

I primarily do structural editing for Christian non-fiction. I started out thinking I would do more business type work, but God has led me down this path and I am so thankful.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Editing in between homeschooling and taking care of my 5-year-old son.

How do you manage your time?

I have my time/days laid out when I work and when I can’t based on my family’s need and schedule

What is your favorite thing about being an editor?

I love helping talent to flourish and achieve their goals. I also love the  intellectual challenge in structural editing.

What is your biggest challenge in being an editor, and how do you work through this?

My biggest challenge is the business part. I love being an editor, but I don’t like dealing with the business side of things. I just keep trying to learn and force myself to pay attention to the business end.

What are you currently working on?

I am helping the founder of a non-profit that focuses on helping persons who have been trafficked write a book on her experience. It’s more coaching rather than editing right now, but it will turn into editing down the road.

What advice do you have for someone who is just starting their career as an editor?

Be faithful in the little things, work with integrity, give every aspect of your gifting as an editor and every aspect of your business to God.

Where can people find you on social media?

My website is www.bgengeditorial.com. I have a Facebook page and a linked in page. But I am not terribly active on social media.

Gayle decided to give up her career to be a full-time stay-at-home mom at age 46. She had previous experience writing, so when a friend asked Gayle to help edit her book, Gayle took it as a sign from God that this was going to be her next career – combining her love for editing with being able to stay home with her son.

Since started her own editing business (www.bgengeditorial.com) in the winter of 2021. She is a structural and developmental editor, as well as a writing coach. Gayle has dedicated her business to the glory of God; to help publish Biblically solid, life-changing materials that further His kingdom.

Gayle has a B.A. Honours in Mass Communication, an M.A. in Leadership from Trinity Western University and a certificate in Professional Editing from Mount Royal University. Most importantly Gayle is a wife to Dave, a mother to Brayden and a servant of Jesus Christ. Gayle and her family live in Calgary, Alberta Canada and attend Rocky Mountain Calvary Church.
